Kangaroos and Wallabies at Greenpatch
Greenpatch is an excellent place to look for eastern grey kangaroos and wallabies, particularly near dawn or dusk. They may emerge from the surrounding bush to graze in open areas, sometimes with joeys visible in pouches, but sightings vary by evening. Stay back, never feed them and do not approach for a close photograph. Check current park access before entering and treat any sighting as a bonus.
Dolphins From Shore
The Huskisson foreshore and other bay headlands provide a free place to scan for bottlenose or common dolphins. Bring binoculars, watch for surface movement and allow time, but do not build the day around a promised sighting. Wild dolphins may be distant or absent.
Sea Eagles and Coastal Birds
Booderee National Park and the surrounding headlands are excellent locations for raptor sightings. White-bellied sea eagles — one of Australia's most magnificent birds — are regularly seen soaring over the coast. Ospreys, brahminy kites, and peregrine falcons are also present. Booderee's Botanic Gardens is an excellent birdwatching location with remarkable species diversity.
Penguins at Booderee
A small colony of little penguins nests within Booderee National Park — one of very few mainland penguin colonies in NSW. Access to the nesting area is restricted to protect the birds, but guided tours are occasionally available. Check with Booderee National Park visitor services for current access information.
